Indian Larry Influence

Indian Larry photograph by Bob Seeger Jr.

Indian Larry is credited with re-popularizing the stripped down, tall handlebar, foot clutched, jockey shifted, no front brake or fender, small gas tank, open piped, kickstart only, stock rake choppers that prevailed in the 60s, before long front ends became popular.

8th Annual Indian Larry Block Party

The Annual Indian Larry Block Party

Indian Larry (1949-2004) was an award-winning legendary bike builder and master mechanic who specialized in custom retro styles. Larry famously created modern bikes that combined classic 50s and 60s chopper looks with gritty styling. His creations were fabricated at Gasoline Alley, his build shop in Brooklyn, NY.  His resume included movies, TV, national and international magazine spreads including Rolling Stone, Easy Riders and The New York Times. John Bentham had the pleasure of photographing Indian Larry in 2004. Following his tragic death his mechanics and build team re-launched the company as Indian Larry Motorcycles and continued the legacy.
The collaboration known as "Indian Larry Legacy" was formed in 2004 with one goal in mind, keeping Indian Larry’s memory alive. It was an organization composed of 4 friends and partners of Indian Larry: Paul Cox, Keino Sasaki, and Bobby & Elisa Seeger. Together they produced custom motorcycles, parts, and apparel. In 2008 all partners branched out to follow various independent pursuits in the motorcycle industry.
The new shop hosts the annual Indian Larry Block Party, a motorcycle meet and festival as a memorial and tribute to the great cycle artist.

At the 8th Annual Block Party, take a photography workshop with professional photographer John Bentham.
